EDWARD WOODHEAD - ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR

Edward studied the viola at the Royal Northern College of Music and then trained as a music teacher. He has been involved with the CSYO since its inseption and for the past 13 years been in charge of the orchestra. For 5 years he has been on the Board of the National Association of Youth Orchestras. After many years being responsible for all 24 central ensembles of the Sheffield Music Service he is now the deputy head of the SMS.

GEMMA HANKINS - BRASS TUTOR

Whilst at university Gemma accompanied CSYO on their Croatia tour as a visiting player and enjoyed the experience so much that she decided to build her career in Sheffield. She graduated from the University of Manchester with a first class honours degree in music in 2006 and has been in Sheffield ever since. Over that time Gemma has established a busy timetable of teaching, playing and directing in and around the city. As a trumpet/cornet player Gemma has experience in a wide range of ensembles including orchestras, brass bands, chamber groups and big bands.

 

TIM PAGE - FRENCH HORN TUTOR

Tim is a former member of CSYO who is now based in Manchester, where he works as a freelance horn player. Tim studied at the Royal Northern College of Music for 5 years, graduating in 2002 with a Masters Degree in Performance. In the same year he was also awarded the British Reserve Prize for Horn in Memory of Sydney Coulston. As a freelancer Tim has worked with many orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, Halle, Manchester Camerata, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Opera North and Welsh National Opera. Tim is also active as a chamber musician and teacher, and teaches horn for the Sheffield Music Service.
